Initiatives for Environmental Issues

“Manufacturing friendly to people, the earth, and the future”

Since its foundation, C. I. Kasei Co., Ltd. has been growing as an all-round plastic processing manufacturer focusing on PVC. We are promoting the concentration of resources on selected areas centering on film processing technology, which has been cultivated over the years in the forms of decorative materials, agricultural materials and packaging films, etc. Following last year, we will drive the expansion of our overseas businesses in decorative materials and packaging films, while aiming at further development.

For this fiscal year, we are engaged in aggressive business activities in growing overseas markets. In Europe, we commenced production by BONLEX EUROPE S.r.l, the manufacturing and sales subsidiary to meet the EU market's demand for decorative materials, while in the United States, we increased the production capacity of shrinkable films by the U.S. subsidiary, Bonset America Corporation, in order to cope with expanding overseas demand for shrinkable films. From now on, C. I. Kasei will strive to accelerate its development power with an eye to creating high added value. We will also boost our comprehensive capability as a manufacturer, and further promote business expansion by utilizing the full potential of our differentiated technical strengths through such measures as marketing products that feature the use of fewer raw materials while keeping existing functions.

Meanwhile, we are addressing environmental issues as we regard the initiative as a main pillar of our management policies. The "Zero Emission" program that we started in April 2003 has already achieved its initial target of 1% or less industrial waste landfill CO2 emissions at all our five factories. We plan to expand the program to our major subsidiaries as an important environmental conservation activity. We have been making continuous efforts to reduce carbon-dioxide emissions in response to the effectuation of the Kyoto Protocol (February 2005) and cut VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions in accordance with the partial revision of the Air Pollution Control Law. By improving our technical strength and development power that put us beyond reach of other companies and by pursuing a highly efficient and low-waste production system through improved productivity, we will reduce our environment load on earth and realize our motto, "manufacturing friendly to people, the earth, and the future."
